What is an infrared sauna?

Traditional saunas involve heating the temperature of the room to kickstart the body’s perspiration. The original process works with wet or dry heat. Either steam gets poured on hot rocks or outside dry air gets pumped in.

Infrared saunas utilize infrared waves that penetrate straight to the cellular level of your body. This raises your core body temperature and detoxifies your body through sweat. With an increase in your body’s core temperature, your sweat comes from internal processes rather than external heat.

A Full Spectrum Infrared Sauna experience affects the cells and purges toxins from the inside out. Infrared light is a wavelength from the sun known as Far Infrared Radiation. It’s invisible to the human eye and a part of the sun’s light spectrum. It does not contain UV rays though, so it is not harmful to the human body.

Sunlighten Infrared Saunas work by harnessing the safe parts of sunlight to raise your body’s heat thereby increasing your heart rate and enhancing your circulation. It helps improve skin elasticity, promotes healing, and can even help with weight loss.

Health Benefits of an Infrared Sauna

According to clinical studies done on infrared therapy, there are numerous Infrared Sauna benefits. Infrared heat saunas start the sweating process from within, so you get the experience of a relaxing sauna while reaping health benefits, too.

Anti-Aging

The release of sweat and toxins from your body helps promote skin softness. In addition, infrared rays can help clear up acne and firm skin against wrinkles by keeping your body feeling light and clear.

Weight Loss

Saunas increase heart rates and an infrared sauna can help you burn calories while simply resting. The increased heart rate caused by the infrared rays tricks your body into thinking it’s taking part in a cardio exercise.

A study done by the Journal of the American Medical Association showed that sitting in an infrared sauna could help you burn up to 600 calories in a thirty-minute session. Sweating is connected to systems in the body that require a lot of energy to keep up.

Detoxification

The infrared rays go an inch and a half into the skin to lift your body’s temperature. It speeds up your heart rate and creates a deep sweat that dislodges toxins and sends them out through sweat. This deep internal sweat can clear build-ups of nicotine, sodium, cholesterol, and heavy metals from your system. Saunas have been used for thousands of years to clear your body and mind through the process of sweating it all away. Our modern technology is mixed with ancient spa techniques to form a new and effective way to cleanse your body.

Pain Relief

During a sauna experience at The Beer Spa, your heart rate increases making your body feel as it does during exercise. With your pulse lifted, it expands your blood vessels and improves overall circulation. This relieves the tension in your body and allows pain to fade away.

Some studies have shown that using infrared therapy for injured athletes as regular care has boosted their recovery time and eased their pain.

As more studies find the direct correlation, those who have regular far infrared therapy sessions have experienced faster muscle recovery.

Had an awesome time. Came in with really no expectations and everything from start to finish was amazing. Lots of beer/wine/non alc choices before you enter your private room. Sauna, Shower, Tub all felt great. Highly recommend doing the zero gravity massage chairs. Damien took care of us the entire time and was incredible. Will come again for sure.

This is the BEST spot. Perfect for date night. It’s incredibly clean when you walk in and the decor is gorgeous. Love that they feature a new brewery every month. I’ve never met nicer staff! They were so helpful and accommodating. The spa room itself has such a great sauna, shower and hot tub. They thought of every detail – beer shower cup holders, lotion, a vanity with hairdryers and deodorant!!! So amazing I can’t wait to go back. And definitely add the massage it felt so amazing!!

Kristen M.

This was such a cool experience. All of the staff were wonderful and accommodating. My husband and I plan to get a membership once it is available! The mix of the sauna and hop/barley bath made it a fun and relaxing experience. Highly recommend to anyone local or visiting from out of town!

FAQs

Do you have more questions about infrared saunas? Let’s get all the answers so you can be prepared for your next spa experience!

A traditional sauna uses dry or wet heat from an outside source to warm the body. On the other hand, infrared saunas use infrared light waves to heat your skin and body from within.

Infrared saunas range from 100F to 170F. It’s recommended you start at a lower temperature and work your way up to a higher temperature if you are new to infrared therapy.

If it’s your first time, start with a 10-15 minute session. The recommended length of time to use an infrared sauna is 20-30 minutes, which you can achieve in a few separate sessions.

Once your body is accustomed to it, you can use an infrared sauna 3-4 times a week.

Since the sauna speeds up your heart rate and blood flow, you should consult with your doctor if you have heart, liver, or blood pressure issues before using an infrared sauna.

You’ll be sweating a lot while in the sauna so it’s common to feel lightheaded after the treatment. Drink a lot of water before and after the service to ensure you stay hydrated. Also, take it easy and rest your body after your time in the sauna to fully benefit from the sauna session.

The use of saunas while drinking is common worldwide. Using a sauna can dehydrate you very quickly, so you need to pay attention to how your body feels while drinking alcohol in a hot environment.

Drink lots of water and be mindful of the amount of alcohol consumed while enjoying your spa treatment to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. At The Beer Spa, we encourage drinking beer and other beverages in moderation to aid in the relaxation process. That being said, we don’t condone overindulging and reserve the right to cancel or cut an appointment short for anyone who appears intoxicated.

We’re not licensed to practice medicine so please consult with your physician for advice on which treatments are safe. In general, hot saunas are not recommended for those who are expecting. However, if your physician says it’s okay, please ask one of our Beer Therapists to lower the heat of the sauna to your desired temperature. It’s also strongly advised that you consult your physician prior to your visit especially if you’re in your first or third trimester.
